Culture as Story
“Culture is the result of the environment we create,” according to Microsoft Chief Storyteller Steve Clayton. The behaviors and values of every member of your company, from upper management to the surrounding outside community, contributes to the culture. And as the culture shifts naturally over time, it can be hard for your company to keep up.
A few years ago, Microsoft realized they needed to reassess their company culture. They lacked “growth mindset,” which is the openness to new ideas and learning new things. After analyzing their old culture, Microsoft restructured their internal communications, management and training strategies, and data analysis. By embracing positive forward change, Microsoft has continued to be a leader not just in technology, but also in their awareness and efforts toward their greater community.
